Mute zone in Brno

Only by a lucky chance we found out that Mute Records is throwing a presentation in Brno. Great thanks to Zdenicka for fast info. Karel Denis (aka Karel Penis), one of the Mute Czechoslovakia promoters, evidently estimated that the best comes at the end so we had to pass many promos till 'Jezebel'.

The Mute presentation called Mute Zone started in the out-of-the-way rock club "Stara Pekarna" (Old Bakery) few minutes after half past eight. The first on the list (and on the big screen) was Moby presented by live video for 'Find My Baby' and with the promo for 'Bodyrock' (cutted from the competition of casting for the official videoclip). Excellent Moby was followed by fantastic Underworld's live promo for 'Cowgirl' (it seems their on-coming live DVD will be really outstanding).

After fabulous start Karel Denis swerved to an interesting Maxim ('Scheming'), sought-after (by us) Zed Pias ('Neighboroghood'), De La Soul ('Oooh') and Brassy ('Play Some D.'). The first part of the promotion ended up by Badly Drawn Boy with humorous videoclip 'Disillusion'.

After short respite the promotion continued with sampled and snatchy Hexstatic's 'Auto', followed by felicitous diversification by Echoboy with 'Telstar Recovery'. The greatest shock for the comers was surely hard-core 'Plug In' by ADD N To(X). The smile on faces evoked the new videoclip 'Freedom' by Erasure.

The last video was the most expected one. 'Jezebel'. Mr. Denis talked about Alan's role in Depeche Mode and about his activities after his leaving the band. He also spoke about complexity of perception of Alan's songs. We were happy to find out that Recoil was valued highly positive by the comers.

The whole Mute Zone finished with the special personal greetings by Barry Adamson, Nick Cave and Martin Lee Gore. Everything passed away with the sounds of 'Heaven Or Las Vegas' by Cocteau Twins.
